Total in Sudan


With production of half a million barrels per day, Sudan is the third-largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa. It also has significant reserves, especially in the south.

Roughly 15 oil companies, mostly Asian, operate in the country. Total has operated Block B since 1980, although exploration has long been suspended due to the prevailing unrest.Background

Though officially peace has been restored, the situation in Sudan is still uncertain.

We have a major exploration block in southern Sudan, and although we had to suspend operations during the 20 years of north-south strife, are preparing to resume work – provided that certain conditions can be met.
